Mobvoi Earbuds ANC review
Read Time:5 Minute, 34 Second
Active Noise canceling is a rarity on cheap wireless earbuds but Mobvoi’s new model breaks that trend. Active noise canceling (ANC) used to be a feature reserved only for the most expensive headphones and earbuds, but technology doesn’t stay still for long, and it’s not unusual now to see this capability appearing in much cheaper earbuds. The Mobvoi Earbuds ANC are the latest to cross my desk, with three listening modes and other features all available for a budget-friendly price.
Why Invest in ANC
Active Noise Cancelling is an R sorcery when it comes to earbuds, but this is the first model to feature ANC. The ANC feature has been something that has been on earbuds for a while, but it has never been this pricey. In fact, you could probably find a cheaper version of the same product that had the same features for under $50. Getting three different listening modes and other features for a lower price is a real treat, especially when you look at the price of the actual earbuds.
Design & Build
The earbuds are made of plastic, a good material for head-mounted earphones. They have a single-copper tip and a black cover with orange accents. One thing that set these tinier-than-normal earbuds apart was the black silicone case. The case features an orange zipper, which has become a trend in the latest trend of phone cases. While the case itself doesn’t look too Outdated, it’s a design choice I find a bit ridiculous considering the price of the earbuds.
Three different listening modes
You can choose from three different listening modes: Stereo, incentive, and De-Listed. Selecting the Stereo mode will give you the best sound quality, though you’ll still need the support of a smartphone app to make use of the feature. Unfortunately, while the De-Listed mode on the earbuds is a great idea, it doesn’t feature the added bonus of giving you a large soundstage. It’s also not ideal for use while driving or while operating heavy machinery. While the Stereo and De-Listed modes are similar in how they make music, the De-Listed mode on the earbuds is a bit more immersive. It gives you a sense of external sound that you’re actively using.
Sound Quality
Unlike most earbuds with an ANC feature, the Mobvoi Earbuds don’t have an internal speaker. Instead, they feature a foam earpiece that is placed inside a hard case. This foam earpiece is great for when you’re traveling and don’t have the luxury of an external speaker. The case also comes with a noise-canceling microphone, which is what these earbuds are built to support. Although the feature is nice, it can easily be missed when switching from one mode to another.
Battery Life
The battery on the earbuds is pretty decent, lasting all of 10 hours on a single charge. That’s pretty standard for a Bluetooth earbud and isn’t too shabby in my opinion. While the earbuds can go for as long as you want them to, you should be careful not to over charge them. This is because overcharging could lead to a very bad situation, where your earbuds start to charge while you’re sleeping or operating heavy machinery. Over-discharging is a sure-fire way to get a very bad situation like a broken earring or a fried motor.
Other features
The first thing that sets the earbuds apart from other budget-friendly options is the built-in mic. Unlike most headphones with an internal mic, the earbuds have one that’s connected to the earphone. This is great for making calls and receiving notifications, but it’s especially useful when you’re looking for a more private conversation.
